Intakes

    Study in Hungary > Intakes
Hungarian universities mainly admit students in September (Autumn/Fall) and, for selected programs, February (Spring). Deadlines vary by university and level of study, and scholarship rounds—especially Stipendium Hungaricum—often close much earlier than regular admission. Use the guide below as a planning reference and always confirm exact dates on your chosen university’s website.

Intake overview

Intake Typical start Levels Application window (typical) Notes
Autumn / Fall September Bachelor’s, Master’s, One‑tier Master’s, PhD December – May Main intake with widest program choice; some competitive programs close earlier (Feb–Mar).
Spring February Selected Bachelor’s & Master’s, some Foundation August – November Limited programs; check availability early.
Foundation / Preparatory September, January/February (sometimes April) Language + academic prep Rolling; typically 2–4 months before start Useful if you need language upgrade or subject refresh.
Medicine & Dentistry (one‑tier) September MD/DDS/Pharmacy October – May Earlier tests/interviews (often April–July). Seats fill quickly.
PhD / Doctoral Mostly September; some February PhD/DLA Faculty calls Oct – Apr; some rolling Deadlines depend on supervisor/faculty funding cycles.

Stipendium Hungaricum (scholarship) timeline

  • Call published: usually November.
  • Application deadline: typically January for the following September start.
  • Institutional evaluation and partner nomination: spring.
  • Final results and placement: late spring to early summer.
  • Visa and travel: June–August; arrival in September.
Dates change each year. Always follow the official SH call and your sending partner’s instructions.

Recommended timeline for September intake (12‑month plan)

  1. Oct – Nov: Research programs and universities; check entry criteria and language requirements; book English tests.
  2. Dec – Jan: Sit IELTS/TOEFL/PTE; prepare transcripts, CV, SOP, recommendations. If applying for SH, submit before the January deadline.
  3. Jan – Mar: Submit university applications (earlier for competitive majors such as engineering/IT/health).
  4. Apr – May: Interviews/entrance tests; receive decisions; accept offers; pay deposits if required.
  5. May – Jun: Arrange accommodation (dorm or rental), health insurance, and collect financial documents.
  6. Jun – Jul: Book visa appointment (consulate/VFS), submit D‑visa application and biometrics.
  7. Aug: Receive decision, book flights, join pre‑departure briefing, and finalize move‑in arrangements.
  8. Sep: Arrive, register at university, complete residence‑permit steps.

Recommended timeline for February intake (8‑month plan)

  1. Jun – Jul: Shortlist programs offering February start; plan tests.
  2. Aug – Sep: Take English tests; prepare documents.
  3. Sep – Nov: Submit applications; some programs close by late October.
  4. Nov – Dec: Offers and deposits; arrange housing and insurance.
  5. Dec – Jan: Visa filing, travel booking, and pre‑departure prep.
  6. Late Jan – Feb: Arrival and enrollment.

Entrance exams and interviews

  • Some programs, especially Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Architecture, and selective IT/Engineering, hold entrance tests or interviews between April–July (for September start).
  • Tests can be online or at approved centers; register early and review sample topics provided by the faculty.

Rolling vs. fixed deadlines

  • Fixed deadlines: Many public universities set hard cut‑offs (e.g., March/April for September). Late files are not reviewed.
  • Rolling admissions: Some programs review applications as they arrive and close once seats fill. Apply early for better chances and dorm availability.

Visa and travel planning tips (Bangladesh to Hungary)

  • Book your visa appointment as soon as you receive an offer and have financial/accommodation documents ready.
  • Allow several weeks for processing; avoid last‑minute submissions in July–August when slots are limited.
  • Keep a buffer for ticket prices and accommodation deposits during peak months.

Key reminders

  • Always check the program page for exact deadlines—different faculties at the same university can use different dates.
  • Scholarship rounds, especially Stipendium Hungaricum, close much earlier than standard admissions.
  • Medicine and some health programs follow earlier testing and contract timelines—start a year in advance.
